Who could pass themselves off as you?

What the check does, and where it stops.

What it reads

Up to 30 likely variants of your name, starting with the same name under other endings, such as .com for a .co.uk name. It asks which are registered, which can send email, and who holds them where the registry says.

Why it matters

A look-alike in a stranger's hands with email switched on is a phishing campaign waiting for a send button. One you registered yourself is good practice.

What a failure looks like

A failure is a finding in your result. The check is scored, so it can lower your score, and the Full Report gives every finding its severity and a fix. If the check cannot finish, it is recorded as unknown: it carries no penalty, and it is never a pass.

Where its limits are

Most registries hide who holds a name, so many land as "ownership unknown, check". A registered variant is often your own, or another organisation's with the same name. An unusual spelling may not be generated.
